A lot of sellers might wonder if it’s possible to improve that feedback by soliciting buyers to leave positive ratings. Sounds logical, but here’s the squeeze:
This question, Can I solicit feedback from Amazon buyers, has two answers.
1. Yes. It is perfectly within your rights as a seller to ask for positive feedback. In fact, amazon even gives you a quasi-script on how to instruct buyers to leave feedback here.
2. I personally don’t use the amazon email system to ask for feedback because it pisses people off. I’ve found that, generally speaking, people go to Amazon to buy something, have it delivered, and not be bothered again. In fact, back in the early days of my Amazon career, I actually had a couple people respond very negatively to my soliciations for feedback, almost to the point of me thinking they may actually leave negative feedback!
That doesn’t stop me from asking from feedback, however.
Here’s how I do it:
1. On the packing slip. On the notes of my packing slip, I always ask for a couple things. First, I ask for positive feedback. Second, I ask them to please contact me first and allow me to make a situation right before leaving negative feedback. And third I ask them to come back and buy more stuff!
2. On the product I have a hand written sticky note that says something like “Thank you for your order, [their name]! Please don’t forget to leave me positive feedback!”
Those two things are delivered with the package. I know that writing a sticky note can be a pain in the butt for every order, especially if you’re doing any kind of volume. But I’ve also found that I can jot out a sticky note in about the amount of time that it would take for my printer to print the packing slip. So, it works out for me.
And there you have it, my opinion on Amazon feedback. Come back next week when we talk about how to deal with people that leave negative feedback!
