Every seller wants to be able to promote their business, right? Of course! Well, unfortunately, one of the pitfalls of doing business on the Amazon marketplace is that you’re pretty much prohibited from doing exactly that.
When fulfilling your own products, you pretty much control the entire customer service process that your buyer receives. This makes it tempting for the savvy business owner to want to include product brochures, or other marketing material in their shipping. I mean, it’s cross promotion, who wouldn’t want to do that?
Well, namely, Amazon.
One thing you have to realize when selling on the amazon marketplace is that the customer is NOT your customer, they’re Amazon’s customer. And the price you pay for being able to sell your stuff to Amazon’s customers, is that you can’t try and steal them.
In their own words:
Do not divert transactions or buyers. Any attempt to circumvent the established Amazon.com sales process or to divert Amazon Marketplace participants to another Web site or sales process is prohibited.
There are a whole slew of other things they don’t want you to do as well. If you’re going to be successful on Amazon, you’ll need to know the Prohibited Seller Activities, lest you get your account banned.
