Searching Craigslist Like A Pro
As a reseller, you’re probably familiar with the search function of craigslist. It’s kind of clunky, I know… For a long time I tried to find a craigslist search tool that I could use to help me find all kinds of hidden treasures to resell. After no good solutions presented themselves, I just made my own. How, you ask? Well, I make my own craigslist search engine that feeds me fresh leads into my google reader every time someone posts something I’m searching for.
Now, if you’re just a casual browser, this might not be your gig.. This is pro-level stuff here! Check out the video below and I’ll walk you through how to set it up.
As promised, here’s some craigslist search variables you can use to hone down your search
By putting something into quotations you can weed out irrelevant searches.
Ex. Tape gun will return different results than “tape gun”.
Filtered Search (Excluding terms)
By putting a hyphen (minus sign) you can get rid of variables that you’re not interested in. A great use for this is filtering out dealers that are posting as owners. You can get rid of their ads by filtering their phone numbers.
Ex. Gold Ring -856-555-5555 or Streetbike -Kawasaki (this excludes all ads that have a kawasaki streetbike, maybe you’re only interested in GSXR’s and CBR’s)
Either Or Search
If you’re looking for one or the other of something you can use the “|” symbol (found by using Shift and the key above your Enter key ;))
Ex. Honda | Toyota SUV
Wild Card Searches
Great for misspellings, you can use the “*” symbol (shift+8) to find hidden gems while searching through craigslist.
Ex. Sam* Sword (would return Samurai, Samari, Samawry, etc)
Once you have those down, you can even combine them to really hone down what you’re searching for. But that’s not even all of them. For a complete list of craigslist search variables, check out the craigslist page.
